Job scope 1: Pre-condition survey on buildings (part of Downtown stage 3 project)

inspect for cracks,water seepage,defects in building within 75m of the downtown line at Thomson road.

First day...

They didn't expect us to be report for work!hahaha! I spent most of the time waiting,waiting and WAITING.

The briefing on job scope got me a little excited. To be invovled in downtown line construction leh! wah i feel like an useful citizen xp. (although i'm playing a minor role). This project is likely to start about 2 wks later...
First day is totally slack. It was a torture! We were only given 2 simple reports to do. I have to find ways to pass time, played computer games,HP games,read newspapers, go toilet ... totally not productive but part of me is fine with that (the lazy me).

Learning points: oh well, we discover new things everyday and that makes life worthy(although it was a slack day).

1. I learnt about cracks! different dimension of cracks!
hairline cracks: 1 mm
fine cracks: 1.1mm to 2mm
medium cracks: 2.1mm to 5mm
large cracks:5.1mm to 10mm
serious/substantial cracks: 10mm

2. Defects to spot in buildings:
spoilt paint,water seepage,cracks

3. characteristics of buildings:
usage,yrs of construction,type of foundation,superstructure,external cladding material(eg.conventional plastering,glass panel on external walls)

Second Day

totally like an excursion day to Precast yard at Tampines. Uncle Chan brought us there.
What we learnt today has nothing related to our job scope. I think they planned the programs to keep us occupied. We spent the whole day out there. Went for 2.5 hrs lunch break at ikea. Knocked off at 4pm. Then i went shopping ^_^

Learning Points: The procedure of precast concrete. Saw real life models,precast concrete,cranes , HDB bond shelters, shop drawings etc
